Accounting Association Handbook Spring 2015 Hello New and Returning Members! This packet you have before you has the information you need to join or continue as a member of The University of Akron’s Accounting Association, one of the oldest, noblest, and largest business organizations at The University of Akron. If you choose to become a member of The University of Akron’s Accounting Association or continue as a member, you will not only have the opportunity to enhance your experience at the university, but also the chance to strengthen your future career. Some of the Opportunities you will have… Meeting past/present/future University of Akron CBA students, professors and alumni Meeting potential employers Meeting future co-workers Leadership Development Become an officer in the Accounting Association Meet and interact with executives and professors Responsibility Dress appropriately for events Actively keep track of you standing within the Accounting Association Nourishment YES-there is FREE FOOD AFTER THE MEETINGS While we all strive to excel in the classroom, most students realize that grades can only take you so far. While the saying “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” is not entirely accurate, it does bring up a valid point. To know someone will give you a better chance for potentially getting that internship, first job, pay raise, etc than if you do not know that person. The Accounting Association will provide you with the opportunity to network with many area executives and potential employers, allowing you to get to know them and perhaps keep you in mind when you enter the application and interviewing process. – Brandon Hickey Past Accounting Association Presidents During the Spring 2015 semester, the Accounting Association will expose you to past, present, and future staff members, partners, and recruiters from the “Big 4” accounting firms, regional accounting firms, local accounting firms, industry accounting professionals, government accounting positions, not for profit accounting departments, and post graduation accounting organizations. In this organization, your opportunities to grow as a young professional are what you make of them. I look forward to seeing you at each meeting and helping you in any way to reach your professional goals.
