Providing Humane Services in Steuben County 7315 State Route 54 Bath, New York 14810 607-776-3039 PRESS RELEASE On Friday, August 29th & Saturday, August 30th, 2008, 82 horses & five cats were seized from a Troupsburg, New York residence. The seizure was the result of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation being conducted by Finger Lakes SPCA. A search warrant obtained by the SPCA was served early Friday morning, 8/29/2008. The warrant was served by Officer Scott Mazzo (Animal Cruelty Investigator for the Finger Lakes SPCA) with assistance from the State Police and Steuben County District Attorney’s Office The majority of horses seized were determined to be in poor physical condition and have immediate medical, grooming and ferrier care needs. Most will need rehabilitative care. 78 horses are in ten foster care homes in Steuben and other Counties across New York State. The five cats are being cared for at the Finger Lakes SPCA, Inc. (in Bath, New York). Expenses for the rescue and the care of the horses in the first month are anticipated to reach $20,000. Donations to help support the care of these horses are desperately needed. The seizure of the animals took two full days and was supported by over 35 volunteers. Two veterinarians and the Hornell Area Humane Society also assisted at the scene.
