PRESS RELEASE
On Friday, August 29th & Saturday, August 30th, 2008, 82 horses & five cats were seized
from a Troupsburg, New York residence. The seizure was the result of an ongoing
animal cruelty investigation being conducted by Finger Lakes SPCA. A search warrant
obtained by the SPCA was served early Friday morning, 8/29/2008. The warrant was
served by Officer Scott Mazzo (Animal Cruelty Investigator for the Finger Lakes SPCA)
with assistance from the State Police and Steuben County District Attorney’s Office
The majority of horses seized were determined to be in poor physical condition and have
immediate medical, grooming and ferrier care needs. Most will need rehabilitative care.
78 horses are in ten foster care homes in Steuben and other Counties across New York
State. The five cats are being cared for at the Finger Lakes SPCA, Inc. (in Bath, New
York).
Expenses for the rescue and the care of the horses in the first month are anticipated to
reach $20,000. Donations to help support the care of these horses are desperately needed.
The Finger Lakes SPCA, Inc. asks people interested in helping to go to their website
(www.fingerlakesspca.org) to make a gift or to mail a check directly (Finger Lakes

mineral licks, wormer, feed tubs, and hay (see website for more comprehensive list) may
be donated as well. Please call 607-776-3039 to arrange.
Charges are pending. The seizure of the animals took two full days and was supported by
