Responsibilities include: Co-ordinating and over-seeing the running of all aspects of the Faculty’s postgraduate student administration processes - admissions to registration, record maintenance, year-end processing and graduation Managing performance of staff including assigning tasks, supervising and promoting staff development Responding in a professional manner to all incoming queries in person, telephonically and via email Liaising with relevant offices and departments within the University Providing administrative support for committee/s Ensuring compliance with University and Faculty rules and procedures Requirements include: A Bachelor’s degree – and a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage 2-3 years senior academic administrative experience in a tertiary institution, either in a department or faculty office Experience in supervising or managing staff Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrable time and activity management skills, and a proven ability to work accurately under extreme pressure and to tight deadlines Demonstrable organisational skills, responsibility for own work and deliverables, and ability to take initiative responsibly High level computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Internet, e-mail, and Peoplesoft or an equivalent student administration system) Ability to work both independently, and as a team member, and leader, as and when required A strong customer service ethic, well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to deal with students, staff and other professionals at different levels and in different contexts The job is key to the effective functioning of the Faculty of Humanities’ postgraduate administration. We are particularly busy over the period from November to February due to the processing of examination results, graduation, admissions and registrations. Overtime could be required, which may include weekends, and we require therefore candidates who have the ability and flexibility to work such overtime. The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is negotiable between R238 359 and R280 394.
