Careers outside of Academia: Workshop on Career Options for Postgraduate Research Students The German Studies Association of Ireland (GSAI) will host a postgraduate skills workshop on Friday, the 13th of November 2015 from 1 to 2.30 p.m. in the James Hardiman Library Building of the National University of Ireland, Galway. The workshop precedes the association’s annual conference and will be held in English. It is open to all postgraduate research students in the humanities. The focus of this workshop will be on alternative career opportunities, outside of academia, for humanities research students. The workshop aims to: provide an insight into a career in online media from the viewpoint of a humanities research graduate; demonstrate the role of research in a career outside of academia; consider various different career options for humanities research graduates; highlight the transferable skills of humanities research graduates and describe how best to market these skills in a competitive job market. The workshop will be given by Dr. Stefanie Çetin, a freelance researcher and writer. Dr. Çetin’s thesis on humour in Erich Kästner’s children’s literature was published in 2014 and she now works in the field of online media.
