SENIOR SCIENTIFIC OFFICER DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY FACULTY OF SCIENCE We invite applications for the above post in the Faculty of Science for appointment as soon as possible. Requirements: Minimum an MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Relevant technical experience (preferably 2 to 5 years) in mass spectrometry of biological samples. Practical experience in protein, peptide and/or small molecule analysis utilising HPLC and/or LC-MS technologies together with mass spectrometry analysis (preferably ESI-QTOF). Experience in interpretation of mass spectral data. Responsibilities: Run and manage an Agilent 6530 QTOF with Chip cube, a 1290 HPLC and a GC Quadropole MS/MS. Prepare samples for analysis. Interpret and report data. Ordering, invoicing and basic financial reporting. Training postgraduate students Set up and maintain a web-based (Vula) user group/platform Critical Competencies include: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Effective management skills of time and resources. Sound technical knowledge. The ability to work in a cross and multi-disciplinary project environment. A strong interest and relevant experience in instrumental analysis procedures and methodologies in proteomics/small molecules research is essential. Experience in analysis and maintenance of large data sets. The annual cost of employment, including benefits is between R273 662 and R321 923.
