LECTURER – STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES FACULTY OF SCIENCE The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for the above permanent position in the general field of structural geology for appointment in 2015. The successful applicant will join a team of nine full-time academic staff members who have expertise in a wide range of geological fields. We seek an individual who will establish research collaborations within the department, the university as a whole, and with outside agencies including industry. The department has a field station, vehicles to support fieldwork, and is well equipped in terms of analytical facilities. Cape Town is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with opportunities for field-based structural geology research in the nearby Cape Fold Belt and beyond. The successful applicant will have a valid driving license, given the requirement to lead undergraduate field trips. Requirements: A PhD in an appropriate field at the time of appointment. A research publication record and demonstrable lecturing ability. Some teaching experience will be advantageous. Key responsibilities: Developing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in structural geology including fieldwork courses.
