The Faculty of Business and Society is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Taxation to join the highly accredited and award-winning provision at City Campus, Newport. The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery and course management of professional, undergraduate and/or postgraduate Accounting courses, particularly in the fields of Taxation and Financial Accounting/Reporting. They will engage in effective, high quality teaching and scholarly activity and will also actively engage in applied research, knowledge transfer and income generation activities.
The post holder must be willing to undertake the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching or equivalent as part of a probationary period.
The terms and conditions of the post (including grade and salary) will be those of the University of South
Wales (based on former University of Glamorgan terms and conditions).

Responsible to: Academic Manager (Accounting & Finance)
Main Purpose of Job:
The Senior Lecturer in Taxation will contribute to the delivery and course management of professional, undergraduate and/or postgraduate Accounting courses, particularly in the fields of Taxation and Financial Accounting/Reporting. They will be responsible for effective, high quality teaching and scholarly activity and the undertaking of applied research, knowledge transfer and income generation activities.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible for the development, preparation and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including module leadership
Responsible for the management of courses at year and programme level
Teach on established courses of study including team teaching, engaging students with lectures, tutorials, seminars etc and contribute to the maintenance and development of the existing modules and courses
Provide a dynamic and high quality contribution to the development, organisation and management of the curriculum
Demonstrate good practice in teaching, learning and assessment through the use of a wide range of learning resources and appropriate pedagogic practice. This will include utilising effective assessment instruments and ensuring that high quality, detailed and timely feedback to students is provided
Engage with the School’s upcoming developments such as the Legal and Financial Advice Clinic
Reflect on academic practice which develops teaching materials and/or methods of approach and delivery. This will include engagement with the University's Reflecting on Academic Practice (RAP) Scheme
Actively engage with quality monitoring and enhancement processes including module evaluation and course and subject reviews
Undertake applied research by (as appropriate):
Contributing actively to applied research groups or communities of practice internally and/or externally
Working on externally funded projects or contracts
Assisting with bid writing or tendering for external funding
Disseminating research outputs using a range of media, including (but not limited to) academic publications, external reports, conference presentations, short courses for knowledge transfer or exhibitions
Developing external networks nationally and/or internationally
Creating and developing internal networks for the sharing of ideas and information
Supervising (where appropriate) research students.
Effectively supervise (and give guidance where required) students carrying out placements, fieldwork or other such projects
Contribute to the wider student experience e.g. through pastoral care, full participation in recruitment such as open days and involvement in employability and other University/ School initiatives
Effectively work as a team member, contributing to committees, working groups and where appropriate supervising or mentoring other members of staff.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Essential a) The ability to teach a variety of Accounting
Desirable b) c) d) technical subject areas on professional, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with a particular emphasis on Taxation and
Financial Accounting/Reporting
The ability to manage course provision including acting as programme leader and year tutor
Effective oral and written skills in both group and individual situations
High level communication skills with the ability to work as a member of a team or group q) Experience in the development of innovative learning, teaching and assessment methods r) The ability to use distance / blended learning modes of delivery and familiarity with Virtual learning environments s) Experience of working on applied research projects or contracts t) Experience of generating external income through research grants, research contracts, consultancy, sponsorship or other third mission activities u) The ability to actively engage with the Welsh dimension and to speak or write through the medium of Welsh e) The ability to relate to students with diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences and a range of external clients, partners and stakeholders of the University f) Good level of proficiency in ICT and understanding of its application to teaching, learning and applied research

EXPERIENCE
Essential h) Relevant experience working at a managerial level in an accountancy role in accounting practice, industry or commerce, ideally in the area of Taxation i) Evidence of coaching and / or mentoring and / or teaching others (or alternatively evidence of high quality presentation skills) x) Evidence of research activities
Desirable y) Some teaching experience within an HE institution or professional training firm within the last 3 years with evidence of successful learning outcomes z) Evidence of engagement with the wider student experience such as recruitment, pastoral care, retention and achievement aa) Evidence of curriculum development
TRAINING
Essential j) Professional Chartered Accountancy qualification (full Chartered member) from one of the UK Chartered professional bodies (such as ICAEW, ICAS or ACCA) k) Undergraduate degree or equivalent
Desirable bb) Practicing Certificate from one of the UK
Chartered professional bodies or willingness to obtain one cc) Teaching Qualification dd) PhD or Higher Degree
