Gina Colvin, Māori, Social and Cultural Studies in Education Assessing the value of undergraduate research based assessment tasks for courses at the University of Canterbury Synopsis of the Project In this project I intend to explore the value of research based assessment tasks with respect to the engagement and achievement levels of undergraduate students. Requiring such work as annotated bibliographies, research proposals, literature reviews and research projects at the undergraduate level has (in my experience piloting research based assessment in COMS201) multifaceted benefits, not the least being high levels of engagement and interest, and the cultivation of an array of practical academic skills.
