Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a four year part-time contract, 3 days
per week fixed term position as a Research Assistant in Health Science with the School of
Psychology and Centre for Pain Research at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
The project is titled: Psychological therapies for chronic pain and adjustment difficulties in
multimorbid health conditions: Development and delivery of eHealth solutions.
This position is funded by the Health Research Board, Research Leaders Award to Dr Brian
McGuire and is available from 1st August 2014 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to contract end
date of July 2018.
Key responsibilities:








Providing research support (e.g. conducting studies using quantitative and qualitative methods)
Undertaking field data collection (e.g. conducting surveys) and undertaking data analyses
Working with relevant stakeholders including health service staff, patient groups, and external
collaborators as appropriate
Writing publications for peer reviewed journals
Presenting at national and international conferences
Participating in team meetings
Contributing to the development of grant applications, including supporting the writing of bids
for research grants
Contributing to and coordinating preparation of research reports for funders and other bodies
Essential requirements:







Degree in Health Science discipline such as Psychology, Health Informatics, Health Promotion
Experience of conducting research studies
Ability to demonstrate strong research, analytical and writing skills, including accessing
information quickly and strategically
Excellent communication skills, in particular, report writing and presentation skills
Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
Evidence of the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, dynamic team
Desirable requirements:




Post-graduate degree in Health Science discipline such as Psychology, Health Informatics,
Health Promotion
Knowledge of developments in chronic pain interventions and multimorbidity
Experience of presenting at academic meetings and/or publishing in peer reviewed journals
Experience of applying for research funding
Salary: €28,509 fixed per annum and pro-rata for shorter / part-time contracts (public sector pay
policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

Start date: Position is available from 1st August 2014 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
