Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a
Clinical Research Assistant with HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway at the National University
of Ireland, Galway.
The HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway’s remit is to increase the amount of clinical research
currently happening in Ireland. Medical doctors and nurses will work with other scientists to
improve our understanding of a variety of diseases and to develop new tests and treatments to
help tackle these diseases. The Centre will provide patients with the latest advances in areas such
as cancer, obstetrics and gynaecology, diabetes, inflammatory diseases, Critical Illness, cystic
fibrosis and cardiovascular disease.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will
 Collect and process samples and specimens as per the clinical trial protocol
 Manage samples in the biobank and deal with clinical trial shipments (to IATA standards for
certain studies),
 Liaise with the laboratory re sample processing
 Extraction of data from medical charts, laboratory or other databases
 Assist with compiling clinical data that will contribute to scientific papers based on this
research
 Assist in the development and implementation of recruitment strategies to increase patient
recruitment (e.g. investigator and research nurse meetings, update newsletters, advertising,
letters to GPs).
 Manage clinical site files and manage clinical patient queries for CRFG clinical research
studies.
 Assist in the development of research grants, research protocols and ethics applications.
 Coordinate subject visits according to protocol.
 Monitoring of subject progress through a research study.
 Conduct patient telephone follow up.
 Review medical records and medical record abstractions for consistency and
completeness.
 Facilitate information exchange among sponsor/Contract Research Organization
(CRO), investigators, CRFG, HSE staff, research subjects, the subject’s representatives
and/or families or other support system.
 Assist with site close-out at end of study.
 Manage patient expense reimbursement according to CRFG guidelines
 All duties must be performed to Good Clinical Practice standards as laid out by the
International Conference on Harmonisation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
 Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or health care field, or equivalent experience in clinical
research/medical environment
 Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint,
etc.)
 Oral and written communication skills
 Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions,
 Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Salary: €21,850 – €32,930 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will
apply)
Start date: Position is available from 1st January 2014
