Test Retakes and Compass
Learning
We’re going to try something different for this test retake. Instead of just having
you review on your own (or with me, a tutor, etc.) we’re going to use the online service
(Compass) to help you. Anyone can use it/do the review, but how it affects your grade
is different, depending on whether you passed the test or not.
If you passed the test, you will have to do the review and pass the quizzes with
a higher score than what you had on the original test. You will need to take notes as
you watch the tutorial and turn those notes in. If your score is higher on Compass,
you can add up to 5 percentage points (half a letter grade) to your score. Example:
Jules gets 78% on her test. She goes through Compass, watched the tutorials and
hands in her notes, takes the quizzes and gets 81% on the quizzes. I would add three
percentage points to her grade. If she had scored 83% or more, I would have added 5
percent to her grade. If there is more than 1 quiz, the grades are averaged.
If you did not pass the test, you still have to do all of the above….watch the
tutorials, take and hand in notes, take the quizzes, etc. But to change your grade you
have to come in for a test retake with me. The best you can do on the retake is 75%.
You no longer need to fill out any half sheet to do this; I have already set it up
for everyone to have access to the tutorial. You have 2 weeks from the day you get the
test back to complete the compass learning and take the quizzes online/retake with
me. I would not wait until the end of the two weeks to complete it. The review can
take over an hour of time.
Using Compass Learning:
From school:
 sign on to a computer and use the icon on the desktop that reads
“Compass Learning.”
 Your username and password are the same as what you just used to sign
on to the computer.
 Be sure to change the school to “acsd”
 Once you are signed in, click on Physical Science and then the
assignment. It will be titled “Ch XX review” where the XX is whatever
chapter we just did. This one is called Ch 11 Forces Review. Click on that
and it will open and you can get started. If you stop in the middle of a
video, you’ll have to start over. If you stop after a video/quiz, but before
the next one, it should pick up where you left off.

Things to remember:




Anyone can do this, whether they passed the test or not
Everyone must take notes and hand them in
If you passed the test, the most your grade can go up is ½ a letter (5%),
depending on your quiz scores.
If you did not pass the test, you still must take a retake with me. The highest
you can score is 75%.

You only have 2 weeks to complete this, and it takes a while, so you might
want to do it a little at a time.
