Writing meaningful instructions for online assessments can be a challenge. Review the
following guidelines a Communication instructor uses in his courses and adapt for your own
needs.

Quiz information: how to prepare for each quiz
To prepare for the quizzes, you will need to read the chapters and study the additional
material provided - particularly the outline of course concepts sections. These concepts or
course outlines are adapted from PowerPoint presentations used in Mr. Ziegler’s face-to-face
classes. They will give you a summary emphasizing the most important concepts. Embedded
in the outlines are markers which will refer you to the audio for each section. You can then go
to the part of audio covered in each section if you need more information or clarification.
Quiz and test security – read this important note on test security
The following test security precautions are in place for the quizzes in SPC 3210
Contemporary Human Communication:
1. Test questions and response option orders are randomized. No student’s test is
identical to that taken by another student.
2. Each test is designed to be open book because students taking the test cannot be
directly monitored. However, the number of test items and the imposed time limit
reduces the likelihood that students are simply looking up answers as they go. You will
have 20 questions and 30 minutes to take the test.
3. You are permitted to take the test 3 times. Be advised that you will not receive the
same test each time.
4. Test statistics are examined after every test to identify problematic items (too easy,
too difficult, etc.) and these are replaced along with regular modification of the test
bank.
What if there is a system problem during the test?
If you have computer or Internet problems during the test, submit a trouble report to
Blackboard support (help@campus.fsu.edu) and cc your instructor. Only documented
system errors will be accepted.
NOTE: QUIZZES ARE TIMED TO CLOSE AT 11:55 PM ON THE SUNDAY IN
WHICH THEY ARE DUE. NO LATE QUIZZES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
