Ecology and Geography Interdisciplinary Project- 200 pts
In this project, you will work in teams of four to create a comprehensive report on a country’s
ecology and geography. Each member of the group will become an expert on one part of the
area’s ecology.
Part 1: Geography and Climate- 2 pages double spaced minimum- 45 pts
Identify major geographic and geological formations in the country. Describe the biomes that
exist in the country as well as the major climate patterns (precipitation, temperature, seasonal
changes, etc.) Identify one major biome in the country to focus more specifically on in your
writing, focusing specifically on the significance of this biome. Identify one of the keystone
species in the biome. Discuss how the geography/geology impacts the climate and biomes in the
country.
Part 1: Required Visual-10 pts: Create at least one map of the country that illustrates the spatial
distribution of one of the factors you discuss in your writing, i.e. precipitation, biome location,
seasonal temperature.
Part 2: Human Population Data- 2 pages double spaced minimum-45 pts
Identify major demographic information about the human population of the country. Discuss birth
and death rates, life excpectancy in the population as well as the age structure of the population.
Identify how much of the population is urban and how much is rural. Discuss the implications of
these factors (as well as 3-5 additional factors of your choice) on human population over the next 50
years.
Part 2: Required Visual- 10 pts: Create a labeled age structure pyramid for your country
Part 3: Human/Environmental Interaction: 2 pages double spaced minimum-45 pts
Identify the primary ways that humans are changing the environment in your country. Is there
deforestation, oil production/drilling, industrial pollution? Describe how humans utilize energy in
the country. Are human’s releasing a lot of CO2 through fossil fuel combustion or clear-cutting of
forests? Are clean energy laws in place? Does this government have environmentalist policies?
Describe the biggest threat to the biosphere that humans are causing in this country.
Part 3: Required Visuals-10 pts: Create a map highlighting the areas of the country that are most
at risk of degradation due to human interactions
