Biomes & Aquatic Ecosystems Presentation Introduction: Biomes are very large climatic regions that contain a number of smaller but related ecosystems within them. A certain biome may exist in more than one location on Earth, but each one of those locations has a similar climate and inhabitants with similar adaptations. Task: Working as a group, develop a short PowerPoint presentation to the class to promote your biome. Each group will be assigned a biome. It is the team’s job to research the biome and gather facts and information about that biome. Each member of the team will become an expert in a particular aspect of the biome. Picture should be included in your presentation. Your information should be condensed into short bulleted points and should not appear as long paragraphs. Be sure you use appropriate grammar and spelling. The layout of your presentation should be neat, organized, and easy to read. Get creative! All students will fill out a facts sheet during the presentations and will be collected at the end. The Major Terrestrial Biomes: Tundra Taiga Temperate Deciduous Forest Tropical Forest Temperate Grassland Savanna Chaparral Desert Aquatic Ecosystems: Ocean: Intertidal, Neritic and Oceanic Zones Estuaries Freshwater: Lakes, Ponds, Rivers, and Streams Freshwater Wetlands Some facts to consider: What kinds of animals and plants live here? What is the weather like? What is the temperature range and precipitation range? What is the soil type? What is the geography of the land like? What part of the world would I find these ecosystems? What’s the best time of the year to travel there? What kinds of activities would I do there? What are some interesting facts about this biome? Are there any dangerous elements to traveling there? Evaluation (30 Achievement Points Possible): 1. Content: includes information about the weather, plants, animals, geography, and relevant facts. (20 pts.) 2. Creativity and Format: PowerPoint is interesting, neat, organized, and free of errors. (5 pts.) 3. Fact Sheet: Fact sheet completed and turned in. (5 pts.)
