TEMPLATE C- Individual Placement Description Northern Deanery Foundation School (NDFS) North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust Individual Placement Description Placement Foundation 1 Respiratory Medicine, CIC The department Two consultants, one SpR in addition to FY1/FY2 doctors supporting a 23 bedded acute medical & respiratory ward with an NIV service. The type of work to expect and learning opportunities There is on-going care for a diverse range of general medical conditions in addition to more complex respiratory pathology. Out-patient care is exclusively respiratory in nature. There is an ICU department which provides both invasive and non-invasive ventilation. Newcastle NHS Hospitals FT provides tertiary neurosurgical and cardiothoracic support Where the placement is based Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle Clinical Supervisor(s) placement for the Main duties of the placement Typical working placement pattern Dr Mary Hewson, Dr Paul Plant, Dr Catherine Rossiter Managing inpatients. Clinical assessment of patients and initiation of initial management. Contributing to multidisciplinary care and management of patients including interactions with patients, their family, friends and carers. Undertaking specific practical tasks. Prioritising care of inpatients, liaising with middle and senior medical staff and nursing staff and maintaining good medical records. Prioritising issues to be dealt with by other staff including senior medical staff. Contributing to discharge planning and ensuring that appropriate social and medical arrangements are in place for discharge home or to other institutions and appropriate arrangements for on-going care. in this Mon: Consultant ward round am Tues: Consultant ward round am Wed: SpR ward round am Thurs: Consultant ward round am Fri: Consultant ward round am Ward jobs, education and reviewing patients daily. Discharge summaries and post take jobs and managing NIV patients also in workload. On call requirements: There is 1 : 14 rota for evening shifts and weekends.
