Placement F1 Gastroenterology The department Busy dept. 2 Consultants, 1 staff grade, 1 Specialty Registrar, 2 Specialty nurses Broad spectrum of acute and chronic medical conditions. Special interest in liver failure and inflammatory bowel disease. Opportunity to investigate and manage patients through in-patient stay. Observe long term care and management in an out-patient setting. Part of acute medical admissions team when on call. Opportunity for audit. Evidence based practise and use of National guidelines within the unit. Working with Clinical Director to have insight into management issues Opportunity to discuss issues and management of care with patients and relatives. Experience dealing with confusional states and challenges to effective history taking and communication. No paediatric experience Part of a multidisciplinary team involving medical colleagues, specialist nurses, dietician, physiotherapy and pharmacy. Attendance at foundation teaching, ward based teaching, specialty meetings. Opportunity to teach medical students. Supported by specialty trainees in Medicine Acute medical take. Resuscitation of GI bleed patients.
