General Surgery
F1 doctors are ward based but have opportunity
to go into theatre if ward not busy. Clerk
patients prior to surgery and care for patients

Main duties of the placement
FY1 doctor cares for patients on the ward, does
ward round every day. Occasionally required to
assist in theatre.
Typical working pattern in this 8 - 5pm monday to friday ward cover Long days
placement
( 8 -9) on call as well as weekend long days and
nights (17:30 - 3:30 am).

Following the predicted merger of CMFT with Trafford in 2012 it is likely that some or all
trainees entering this combined program will work across both sites during their two year
rotation. It may be necessary to change the location of posts if services move between the
two sites within the next three years.
