Getting artistic in the Men’s Shed
Moonee Valley men will tap in to their creative sides at the upcoming Men’s Shed Art
Workshop, with art work created as part of the workshop set to be exhibited across the city
The art workshop is an initiative aimed at encouraging men in the community to make use of
their artistic talents or perhaps find a new talent they didn't know they had. The program is
inclusive of men with varying abilities, with a qualified art facilitator who has a broad range of
techniques available to assist each participant achieve the most from each session.
The workshops will take place at the Moonee Valley Men’s Shed and Up-Cycle Shop over an
eight-week period for one hour per session, beginning in February.
Mayor of Moonee Valley, Cr Jan Chantry said participants can paint on canvas, an object or
create an art piece that is reflective of the Moonee Valley community under the guidance and
encouragement of a qualified art teacher.
“The Men’s Shed Art Workshop will promote self-help/mutual aid as a way of empowering men
to make use of their artistic talents to develop art pieces that will be displayed in the
community.”
“Once the works are completed, there will be a launch event in April at the Avondale Heights
Library - which is the ideal venue to showcase the skills and talents of all those involved to the
wider community,” Cr Chantry said.
