Moonee Valley Festival is back!

The annual Moonee Valley Festival will be popping up in Queen’s Park again for a free day of summer fun on Sunday, 28 February.

Council invites the whole community to be part of the excitement with market stalls, roving performers, live music, dance and entertainment, workshops and activities, the business expo, delectable food, and carnival rides.

Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Andrea Surace said the festival, now in its 39 th year, is the biggest event on the Moonee Valley calendar.

“Every year thousands of people of all ages come to Queens Park to enjoy what’s on offer at the Moonee Valley Festival,” said Cr Andrea Surace.

“There really is something for everyone!”

“Car lovers will be in heaven with a classic car display. You’ll be transported back to the golden era of cars with 1950s themed performers, swing dancers, a jukebox, and even an Elvis impersonator.”

“There’s a great selection of live music at this year’s festival with a mixture of world music performers and up-and-coming local Melbourne artists including Sol Nation, Quarter Street, the

Meltdown and the Scrimshaw Four.”

“There’s plenty for the kids. Children can sing and dance along with the Magic Mountains

Colourful Australian animal themed performance. There are free rides and activities to keep them busy all day including circus workshops, art, craft and, giant sand pits, and face painting.”

“The One World Cultural area will highlight the amazing cultural diversity we have in our own backyard. Foodies will be well catered for with a range of cooking demonstrations including

Greek, Italian, Indonesian and African cuisines, as well as much loved scone baking with the

Country Women’s Association.”

Moonee Ponds.

The Bendigo Bank Community expo will showcase local community group exhibits and feature a diverse range of entertainment by local community performers.

 The Hall’s Taekwondo Health and Wellbeing Area showcasing local community groups and businesses with a range of interactive activities and workshops for all ages.

Free entry to Queens Park Swimming Pool and the giant inflatables plus heaps of extra activities to keep everyone entertained.

Free barefoot bowling at Moonee Ponds Bowling Club between 10am and 4pm, children welcome, with Devonshire Tea and refreshments for sale.

Festival highlights:

Sol Nation

Sol Nation is the product of Melbourne's communal musical scene. Infectious rhythm, worldly lyrics and impassioned musicianship are just the beginning for any Sol Nation performance.

African dance music.

Quarter Street

Local Melbourne band, Quarter Street, take you back to the heart of classic salsa. Inspired by the raw sounds of New York in the 1970’s, the Quarter Street revisit an era where the music of the streets resonated with the voice of the people.

The Scrimshaw Four

The Scrimshaw Four are a high energy, jazz/bluegrass band from Melbourne, featuring Banjo,

Guitar, Violin and Double Bass. Known for their fun live shows, The Scrimshaw Four gets everyone up and dancing with fast paced, toe-tappin' tunes.

Little Wooden Caravan: Shared Table

Shared Table is an enchanting and poignant story telling experience for older children, families and adults. When you first encounter the ‘Jacques’ the caravan you'll see his toothy grin and big glowing window eyes. Once inside the caravan you are immersed in a cosy and magical world, like a talking book brought to life.

Kellaway

Avenue will be car lover’s delight with a classic car display along the street. The golden era of the 50s will be brought to life with an Elvis impersonator, swing dancers, and free juke box.

The Nylon Zoo

Koomurri Aboriginal Incursions

The ultimate Aboriginal education and entertainment experience. Learn about Aboriginal history, culture, bush survival, weapons and art and enjoy traditional didgeridoo and dance shows.

Million Star project

Moonee Valley Libraries will be hosting a star weaving jam for the Million Stars Project. One

Million Stars to End Violence is a love and peace filled community project by artist and weaver,

Maryann Talia Pau. The aim is to bring people together around the world to weave 1 million stars for a display in Queensland Australia, 2018. These beautiful stars are symbols of light, courage and solidarity to end all forms of violence, including violence against women, bullying and racism.

The stars made at the festival will contribute to Moonee Valley’s goal of becoming a Weave

100 community by pledging to weave and collect 10,000 stars by 2018.

Magical Mountains

The Magical Mountains live shows feature the Australian animals from the Magical Mountain and their friend Wozza dancing and singing their colourful Australian themed music. Parents and children alike get a kick out of the high energy songs which cross diverse genres including rock and roll, blues, bluegrass and reggae.

Kinetic Theatre

– Entrée

A tasty slice of black comedy, where entertainment comes with silver service. A unique roving act in which the Chef's prize dish is on the menu, but it's a little undercooked. Remove the lid, and the prize dish is still alive. The delectable head on a platter is hungry, but it is attended by a waiter reluctant to feed it. And so the head turns to enlist the help of the audience!
