Media Alert Friday, 25 October 2013 Ninth annual Fling Fest showcases upcoming talent On Thursday, 24 October, Moonee Valley Youth Services showcased the best short films by talented, young local film makers at Fling Fest 2013. The free screening took place before a packed crowd at Village Cinemas, Airport West. Council is proud to announce the following winners, which were judged by a panel of industry experts: Best Short Film winner: ‘Chuck Baritone’ (Directed by Conor O’Keane and Ethan Miles) Best Short Film runner up: ‘Motives’ (Directed by Grace Griffith and Simeon Bain) Best Video Art Short Film winner: ‘Origami’ (Directed by Calvin Varani) Best Video Art Short Film runner up: ‘Superhero’ (Directed by Ainsley Berry) Best Local Talent winner: ‘The Letter’ (Directed by Angus Turner-Sumerton) Best Actor winner: Joel Gardner in ‘Origami’ The People’s Choice Award, as voted by the audience on the night, was awarded to ‘Chuck Baritone’. This year, an additional category for anti-bullying themed films was included, as a result of Council’s community partnership with Bully Zero Australia. The Anti-Bullying Award was awarded to ‘Out of Bounds’ which was directed by Amelia Trickey. Fling Fest is a FReeZA event, funded by the Victorian Government Office for Youth and proudly supported by Bendigo Bank.
