Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position for a two year
period, subject to an initial one year probationary period as a Postdoctoral Researcher with CÚRAM at the
National University of Ireland, Galway. The project represents a Science Foundation Ireland facilitated
collaboration between NUI Galway with an industrial partner.

Job Description:
The position is designed for the research and development of a self-assembling peptide technology platform
for a range of human products including hemostatic agents and sealants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop the technical and product specifications file for self-assembling peptide technology; Develop and
validate clinically relevant bench top test methods; Develop prototypes and assess performance in benchtop and in vivo experiments; Adapt and design the manufacturing process; Co-ordinate and manage project
in an independent manner; Keep detailed records of project work per established quality system; Contribute
to experimental prototype testing and development of patentable products and technologies; Work closely
with other post-doctoral scientists at CÚRAM and associated institutes within and outside NUI Galway, and
potentially guide and train doctoral candidates.
Essential Criteria:
 A PhD degree in a biomedical/chemical engineering/chemistry/sciences is required.
 Track record in a research and development environment. Medical device experience is highly
desirable.
 Candidates must be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products and have strong
documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.
 Expertise in the analysis and characterization of peptides, extracellular matrix based biomaterials,
protein chemistry, and cross-linking of protein based scaffolds.
Desirable Criteria:
 Previous experience with injectable biomaterials and self-assembling peptides would be highly
desirable.
 Publications in high impact factor journals and active participation in international conferences and
meetings is desirable.
 Candidates who have worked in the area of peptide chemistry and extracellular matrix scaffolds are
encouraged to apply.
Salary: €37,750 – €42,394 per annum (Public sector pay policy in relation to new entrants will apply)
Start date: 1st October 2015
