Welcome and Call to Order 7:00 pm

Principal’s Report

 Teacher assignments are not complete

In the process of interviewing

Projections go to the Board regarding enrollment

 We are a growing population

 Staffed based on numbers in the school

Re organized every year

 Board sends back suggested class organization for primary and junior grades

 School has to meet certain criteria set by the Board o Class splits o 4 Kindergarten classes

 Blends optional

 Good theory in support of blended classes

 70% of junior kindergartens are boys

6 Primary classes (set by Board) o Cap of 20 students o 2 grade 1’s o 2 grade 2’s o 2 grade 3’s o 1 grade ¾ split to be an even split and if a re org occurs this is the class that would likely disappear

3 Junior classes o 3 grade 4/5 splits using the following rationale

 Academic and social/emotional needs

 Better environment for personalities

 Better option than 30 grade 4’s in one class

 Staffing finalized mid June

 Quick staggered entry in September – all first week

 Question – are peer groups and keeping friends together considered when building classes? o Yes. The following are all taken in to consideration

 Gender

 Special needs

 Academics

 Being respectful

 Relationships – teachers may see students relationships differently than students

Classes are built without teacher’s names

 Scientists in the school – outside organization

 Budget/Spending o Needs for next year o We were 1 of 10 schools chosen to be audited o Passed with flying colors thanks to Mrs. Gunn who keeps us organized and on task

Dress Code (attached) o All agreed to accept the dress code that was presented

 FDK Construction Update o Kindergarten pen has been moved to the front of the school o Possibility of having it enlarged because of the concrete and steps o Waiting for permit before digging o For 2 weeks students will not be able to use primary door

Wild on Waterdown o Coming to Mary Hopkins to work on front garden o June 8, 2013 o Asking for volunteers and plant material

 School Council Constitution to be reviewed at the next meeting o Send out Constitution and Ministry Guidelines 1 week prior to next meeting

Internet Safety Clinic o Wed May 15 6:30pm o Jared Bennett o Understand digital identity and digital footprint o Provide tips and strategies o Laptops/I Pads/I Phones o Parental controls o Use technology safely o Guided access

As a result of the audit we have been made aware that raffles are not allowed without a permit o Silent auction for class baskets o Carnival games instead of penny sale

Book fair o Large teacher wish lists to donate to the class rooms o Books will be labeled – Donated to Mary Hopkins
