Dear Parents and Guardians, January 23, 2015 It is nice to get back into the routines here at school and see all the smiling faces again. While the days are getting longer, it is still dark in the mornings so please drive slowly in the parking lot. We are having quite the mix of weather so make sure your child has dry clothes to change into should they get wet. Madame Anderson has joined us and is our new French Immersion Grade 4/5 teacher. Bart Kuntz is our School Trustee for the school year. We welcome Bart and know that he will be in the school to learn and participate with staff and students. Some of you may have met him during the POPS session yesterday as he circulated through the activities interacting with students, parents and staff. We are using the Daily Five in our classes as one aspect of our Literacy Program. This can also be done at home each day to enhance student skills. POPS – Thank you to all parent/guardians who participated with their children in our first session yesterday. It was a huge success! One staff member indicated that this was the largest parent turn out ever. Thank you to the parents for their constructive feedback. We will take your suggestions into consideration for the next session. Teachers and support staff worked hard to come up with a new selection of activities, so thanks to the staff. The next POPS session will be on Thurs, February 19th from 6:00- 7:30 pm. Our focus for the session will be on Math. Basketball – the Basketball teams have started practicing and played their first games yesterday. The next games will be on Thurs Jan 29th. The coaches will be sending home information. NID – Friday Jan 30th, 2015 is a non-instructional day so there is no school for students. Kindergarten Registration – Registration for Kindergarten 2015/2016 school year is Monday February 2nd – 13th, 2015. To register your daughter/son must be years of age before December 31, 2015. Please bring your child’s birth certificate and care card. We will make a photo copy, originals will be returned to you. The school office is accepting registrations from 8:30 to 3:30 daily. Carnival - Carnival is Feb 4 – 6, 2015 with many activities planned for staff and students. These include Crazy Hair Day, Pac Sponsored Lunch, Bal Masque, Shirt and Tie day, staff vs students Basketball game, red and white day, and our famous canoe races. French Course – CPF is sponsoring French classes starting on Tuesday, February 10 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The final session will be on Tuesday, April 7th. The next CPF meeting will be Wednesday Feb 11th at 7:00pm at PRMS. Contact information update – We have recently been sending out Synervoice messages and directly calling with important information, there have been many phone numbers no longer in service. Please make sure that you update your home and cell numbers at the school office. PAC - the PAC has sponsored two days of Yoga for our DPA this month and the students are really enjoying it. They will be sponsoring a student Pancake Lunch on Wednesday Feb 4, 2015. The next PAC Meeting will be on Tuesday, February 17 at 6:00pm. Come out and help support the PAC as work with us to enhance learning for our students. ALL Native Basketball Week – Feb 8 to 14th is the All Native Tournament. Family Day – is on Monday February 9, 2015. There is no school for students and staff. PALS – the next FI PALS session will be on Friday February 20 in the pm. The topic will be Early Writing. Stop Bullying Day – is on Wednesday Feb 25th, 2015. The purpose of the day is to promote Anti-Bullying awareness in BC School. Wear pink to school/work to support anti-bullying. We do have 16 adult medium t-shirts from last year on sale for $5.00 each. If you are interested in the new t-shirt design for this year, please see the attached order form.
