Qualification Structure and Assignments – Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art and Design Qualification Structure Assignments The Diploma is delivered through nine units over a nominal one year period. Units will vary in length to ensure that the qualification provides an appropriately supportive experience Centres should design assignments that will provide the learning necessary to give candidates the best possible opportunity of achieving the assessment criteria. Unit 8 the final unit of the Diploma provides candidates with a measure of self directed learning in the development of a substantial art and design project. Evidence submitted for this unit is assessed and graded internally and subject to External Moderation. Assignment requirements must be mapped against unit learning outcomes and clearly inform the learner of the assessment criteria that they must meet to pass the unit. The length and complexity of assignments and the specific art and design activities which learners are asked to engage with should reflect the level of the unit and the learning outcomes. Assignments must enable the learner to produce the evidence needed to meet the unit assessment criteria Assignments may cover the learning outcomes for more then one unit. The Extended Diploma is delivered through thirteen units over a nominal two year period, units one to nine should be completed in year one. The overall grade for the qualification is determined by the candidates’ achievement in the final unit. This can be achieved at either level 3 (unit 13) or level 4 (unit 14) Evidence submitted for this unit is assessed and graded internally and subject to External Moderation.
