CLASS TITLE: CLINICAL ASSOCIATE
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is professional nursing and/or medical work conducting physical examinations and providing
primary health care services.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Performs basic physical examinations of patients utilizing various techniques such as
observation, palpation, percussion, and auscultation.
Identifies and evaluates illnesses and injuries, treats common illnesses, and monitors the
progress of acute illnesses.
Compiles and evaluates patient medical histories, physical findings, and if necessary, initiates
further diagnostic laboratory tests.
Interprets and evaluates laboratory results.
Initiates treatment under a physician's supervision or, within the limits of established protocols,
makes diagnoses and chooses, initiates, and modifies selected therapies or treatments.
Facilitates prescriptions for standard drugs for patients following consultation with and
approval of a physician, or in accordance with established protocols.
Provides emergency medical care to injured persons.
Makes physical assessments and recognizes underlying emotional problems and refers patients
for appropriate treatment.
Provides information to patients and/or their families upon a diagnosis or plan of therapy.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Ability to administer prescribed medications.
Ability to perform basic physical examinations.
Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses and injuries.
Ability to treat and/or monitor illnesses.
Ability to interpret and evaluate the results of laboratory tests.
Ability to compile and evaluate medical histories and other clinical and laboratory data.
Ability to initiate treatment under medical supervision or to choose treatment within the limits
of established protocols.
Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in accordance with Florida Statute
464; or
Certification as a Physician's Assistant in accordance with Florida Statute 458.
