Supplies Needed:
Students are expected to have the following supplies in class EVERYDAY !
*
*
*
Textbook: Algebra I , Holt McDougal Publishers
Pencil and/or Pen
Calculator
Grading Procedures:
Each student will earn a grade based on tests, quizzes, and assignments. Test and quiz grades will be
weighted at 80% of each student's quarter grade, while assignments are weighted at 20%. Extra
credit opportunities will NOT be provided – scores will solely be based on classwork. Scores will be
updated on the parent portal approximately once a week.
Homework will be assigned and collected daily. Each assignment MUST be done in the lab
notebook in duplicate. The daily assignments will be checked for completeness, neatness, effort,
and occasionally for accuracy. A complete list of the previous nights’ correct answers is provided
each day. It is the responsibility of each student to check his/her homework for correctness.
Tests and quizzes will be graded thoroughly. Accuracy and a student's best effort are expected to
receive top scores on tests. There will be times when certain algebraic procedures are expected to be
used. Students will be graded on their performance in using the correct procedures, not just
whether their final answer is correct.
At the end of the semester, a Final Exam will be given. A final grade will be given that combines
each student's semester grade and Final Exam score. The Final Exam score will be weighted 20% of
each student's final grade. A letter grade will be assigned using the following scale:
For students performing at
90% and above………..A
80% through 89%……..B
70% through 79%……..C
60% through 69%……..D
59% and lower…………F *
* students earning a grade of F will be "LOOPED" at the semester
Algebra is included in the "looping" program at Maine East, so students must be performing at a
"D" level or above.
At the end of the 1st semester, any student who has not earned a grade of "D" or better, will
repeat the semester’s work during second semester and must attend summer school in order
to complete the course.
Missing Assignments


All homework assignments and tests missed due to an excused absence will be required the
day following the student’s return. Extended absence work will require direct contact
between teacher and student to arrange for an acceptable timeframe.
Student is responsible for homework assigned on the day of the field trip. It will be due the
following day.
Test Retakes:
Algebra I unit tests may be retaken by any student who receives below a 70%. In order to
be allowed to retake a test, the student must have completed appropriate test corrections as
directed by their teacher. Retake test grades may not exceed 69%.
Academic Dishonesty
Students are expected to complete all tests and assignments honestly and will not collaborate
in dishonest actions. Students will not give or accept answers or assignments unless directed
to by the teacher. Students caught cheating or plagiarizing will be subject to discipline as
stated in the Student Handbook, p. 37.
Here is where to get help…
