Meeting Minutes
March 5, 2015

Board Members
o Present: Emily, Gretchen, Matt, Shane, Laura, Julie, Patty
o Absent: None
o Quorum: Yes

Proceedings
o The meeting was called to order at 8:10 am
o The previous meeting’s minutes were reviewed and approved
Financial Report
o Significant donation this month
o Current bank balance is $22,000
o Financial report was approved by unanimous decision
o Techsoup.org
 They provide services for non-profit organizations
 They also provide discounted QuickBooks sales to non-profit
organizations
 Motion was made to purchase the current non-profit edition of
QuickBooks for $45
 Motion carries unanimously
Horse Health Update
o Jax – due for a dental this month (MW will do at his convenience)
o Mia – lameness issue
 Couple of months ago she was sore on the left front? (suspensory
area)
 Not holding up to work  reasonable to re-evaluate her at this
time
 Will have Dr. Eihl re-evaluate her
o Kiowa  has an abrasion on her nose from fighting with a barn mate
 Need to have a trainer work with her
o Moving horses
 Stallion is coming in tomorrow and is going to MVVH under the
county bill
 If he is castrated, he will become SAIN’s responsibility 
will move to Cassandra’s barn if his temperament is
suitable for adoption
o TJ needs to be started on training
Volunteer Update
o Polar Plunge








This Saturday  event is 9-1
We will have a booth and we have been asked to speak briefly at
around 12pm
 Having a tablet to use at events would help
 Julie is looking at grants for technology
o We are working on a volunteer orientation/meeting session
Website Update
o We are signed up with grassroots.org  a volunteer will build the website
and the hosting service will host it for free
 To qualify for the free website hosting we need to get to the “silver
level”  this includes sending copies of our mission statement and
paperwork to the organization
 Will look into the paperwork required
o Facebook posts  updates need to be on the top instead of below the
back-story
 1400 fans of the page
 There is a post made every day
Old Business
o Polar Plunge
 The event would like additional volunteers  need people
directing traffic
 Volunteers can run if they want
 Booth will be available before and after the run
 Volunteers should try and be there by 8:15
o Training
 Megan is taking a break from her volunteer training duties
 Current training rate is $375/mo. for 1 horse
 There are a few potential volunteer trainers
 There are certain horses that would benefit from a month or 2 of
intensive training
 We can set a discounted price that we pay for training  with this
rate we expect a certain number of rides per week and to see
progress
 We need to set standards of training for the group
 The training aspect was tabled until we can develop a budget and
committee
New Business
o Showing horses at local shows
 Mackenzie and Brittany are willing to show horses
 They would write adopt me on their rump
 SAIN would consider paying entry fee’s for select circumstances
 This brings up a vaccination question  currently our horses are
not covered for a full show circuit
 If they were to be entered at shows SAIN would need to reevaluate our vaccination guidelines



It was decided that volunteers can email the board if they want to
show
 It may be approved or not by the board based on the
situation
o Adoption day at Skagit Farmers (Mt. Vernon)
 The Mt. Vernon store would like to hold an adoption day for SAIN
 Summer time?
 This possibility has been tabled for now and will be discussed in
the future
o Tack Sale
 Bony Pony tack sale
 Potential for bringing a horse  cost?
 Date is April 18th from 10-4
o Volunteers needed: 4 -6
 If we have horses present  have 1 person per horse
 SAIN Tack sale
 At the Sedro -Woolley rodeo grounds
 We can have use of the building and bathrooms
 $50 for 3 days and will need to do some labor to help clean
out the pens
 We can also have horses available and out back
 Date has been set: Friday 12th for set-up, sale 13-14
 There is a Friday night lights event that Friday, which can
provide a good event for raffle sales
 A donation flyer will be created for potential donors
o Deadline for donations is April 10th (raffle)
o HTH barn
 Board is ok to explore the opportunity
o Insurance
 Tabled to next meeting
