Term 1 Busy Bees Playgroup Term 1 – Nursery Rhymes: Hey Diddle Diddle Target Language: Identify different animals - cow, cat, dog Introduction to Topic: Circle Time: Register and Songs Theme Introduction: Show pictures of animals (Attachment 1) Elicit what they are and the noises they make. What are they doing? Teacher demonstrates and introduces, e.g. the cat is playing the fiddle / the cow is jumping over the..moon! / dish and the spoon are running away / etc… Ask the students if they can demonstrate each action. (Teacher mimic actions and the parents assist students to follow) Rhyme: Hey Diddle Diddle Can use visuals (Attachment 2) or show the rhyme on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xumvDQ0jgSU or Read the story: Hey Diddle diddle by Charles Reasoner *Demonstrate craft and display. Main Activity: Craft 1: Cow over the Moon craft – Let students paint a paper plate yellow and colour the cow black. Cow template Attachment 3. Stick the cow at the top of the yellow paper plate. Stick the rhyme (Attachment 4) in the middle of the plate. Craft 2: Nursery Rhyme Book craft – Instructions and templates attached to lesson. – Attachment 5 Extra Craft ideas: Sample pictures of extra craft ideas attached to the lesson. Attachment 7 Sensory Play: Gloop tray: Mix cornstarch and water in a big tray. (Can add a few drops of food colouring) Add plastic spoons and forks for students to explore with. Game/Movement Activity: Use big tape to make 5 lines parallel on the floor in class about a ruler whit apart. Let older students try and jump over the lines like the cow jumped over the moon. The younger students might need some assistance from their parent/guardian. Put 4 chairs (use a table) in a row. Let students try and crawl under the chairs. Put a ball at the end of last chair for some encouragement. Extension Activity for 2+yrs: Print a copy of Attachment 6 for all students. Cut out the pictures at the bottom of this page. Color and then glue medium Google eyes on the spoon. Glue large google eyes on the plate, staple or glue the feet to the bottom of the plate. Next glue the spoon onto the plate. Once it’s dry, staple another paper plate to the back so that this it opens like a book. Glue the nursery rhyme on the inside.
