Term 1 Busy Bees Playgroup Term 1 – Nursery Rhymes: Teddy bear, Teddy Bear Learning Outcome: Students will be introduced to homemade toys. Students and parents will learn to use items around the house to make toys. Target Language: Toys, teddy bear Introduction to Topic: Circle Time: Register and Songs Before lesson starts preparation: Make the following toys at home. Sensory bottle, musical instrument, toys to practice fine motor skills. Sample pictures attached to the lesson. (Attachment 1) Use materials you can find at school. Theme Introduction: Let the students sit in a circle with their Teddy bears on their laps. Put the playgroup toys you’ve made in the middle of the circle. Ask them about their Teddy’s. Let them touch the toys displayed in the middle. Main Activity: Craft 1: Sensory bottle – Sample pictures attached to the lesson. (Attachment 3) Craft 2: Musical instrument – Shaker - Let students decorate a cup. Put a few seeds or beans in the cup. Cover the top with crepe paper and tape it down around the edge. Craft 3: Homemade paint – Show the parents how to make paint at home. A few recipes attached to the lesson. (Attachment 4) Let students use their hands/paint brushes to paint on A4 card. Colouring page: Teddy bear – Attachment 5 Sensory Play: Homemade playdough – Use a recipe from the resource book. Show parents how to make the playdough and let students play. Or Fine motor practice – Punch a few holes in A4 card. That's it! This homemade paint recipe is easy to make and, the process of making the paint is fun for the kids. Squirting the shaving cream, squeezing the food coloring, tossing in the sand, and mixing it all together is a big part of the FUN! Once the puffy sand paint is good and mixed kids can simply explore the texture for some fabulous sensory play . Edible Paint 2 cups cold water 1/2 cup cornstarch 3 tablespoons sugar food coloring I added everything but the food coloring to the Vitamix and blended it together on high for about six and a half minutes. Whisk together all ingredients on the stove over medium heat until thickened. Once thickened, separate into smaller portions depending on how many colors you'd like to make.
