Research Associate/Nurse

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a
Research Associate with the HRB Clinical Research Facility at the National University of Ireland,
Galway.
This position is available immediately for a 2 year period.
Job Description:
The Research Associate/Nurse will work under the direction of the Research Nurse Coordinator of
the HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway. Within the remit of this post, the successful individual
will have responsibility for a caseload of patients on clinical trials and research projects. The
individual will be expected to lead under direction of CRFG on areas such as individual research
projects, engage in nurse led research, audit and education, contribute to papers that arise from the
studies undertaken, and attend relevant national and international meetings. The Research
Associate/Nurse will support the on-going development of the CRFG. As workload allows, the post
holder will also be expected to cross cover other areas of research within CRFG such as
cardiovascular research.
The post holder will:













Adhere to protocol, SOP and regulations in place for clinical research studies.
Participate in the implementation of delegated CRFG protocols
Plan and conduct clinical research activities to ensure the smooth operation CRFG studies.
Effectively plan clinical research and estimate the time and resources required to complete
it, and deliver on schedule under the supervision of the PO and as set out in the milestones
for the research project
Inform patients of details pertaining to clinical study prior to their recruitment
Screen participants for CRFG studies
Keep up to date with research related methods and techniques, in particular, developments
in the clinical research area.
Have knowledge and understanding of the policy, practices and procedures, relevant to the
role, including those of the broader sector, external sponsor or funder (e.g. Research Ethics,
Knowledge Transfer, Health and Safety).
Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity is maintained at all times during CRFG activities.
Upkeep and input of research documentation including but not limited to site files, CRFS,
monitoring actions and data entry.
Facilitate the ongoing education of multi-disciplinary teams with respect to ICH-GCP, specific
protocol and research requirements.
Promote a safe clinical environment for patients, visitors and staff to CRFG.
Undertake further education and professional development as appropriate to develop their
own career reputation and career development as outlined, discussed and agreed with PI
without adversely impacting the primary research role.


Build up collaborative links and networks with other schools, disciplines, organisations and
keep up to date with research in their own area and what is happening in the international
research community by attending investigator meetings and conferences as applicable
Collaborate with colleagues on areas of shared clinical research interest and communicate
their research with their peers

Evidence of good IT computer skills including familiarity with the integrated Clinical
Information Systems utilised by various departments in the hospital
Essential criteria:
 Current registration with An Bord Altranais.
 Have a minimum of 3 years Clinical experience as a qualified Nurse.
 Candidates must have a proven track record of the research process and regulation
requirements for clinical research
Desirable criteria:
 Experience of working in an Irish hospital is an advantage.
 An understanding of Research and the Research process
 Have an excellent working knowledge of GCP.
 Evidence of undertaking or participation in research projects
 Proven track record in Information Technology and data base management including
Electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) usage
 Experience in working on lifestyle interventions.
Salary: €37,750-40,003 per annum
Start date: Position is available immediately.
