Mrs. Sanders Algebra 1 CP Classroom Expectations
Dear Parent/Guardian/Student:
Welcome to Algebra 1 CP for the 2015-16 school year. I would like to take a moment to go over what
you can expect from my class and in return what it is that I will be expecting.
Classroom Rules
You will be successful in my class if you attend class every day; you always participate by taking good
notes, persisting (not giving up) during problem solving activities, and pay attention in class (not
distracting others). Always try your homework whether you can complete all of them. If you do not do
the assignments, then you cannot say you do not understand or ask good questions in class. It is
important to stay positive and uplifting towards all your classmates. We will have a great year!
Classroom Guidelines:
 Bring required materials to class: pencil, paper, math notebook. Be prepared and ready to learn!
 Be in assigned seat, ready to work, when tardy bell rings or you will be sent to TNT (tardies not tolerated).
 No socializing during lectures, no profanity, put-downs, or other disrespectful behavior to teacher or
classmates.
 Cheating will not be tolerated (copying homework, talking or texting during an exam will result in a zero).
 Please be respectful with your cell phones and other electronic devices. Texting and listening to music is
didstracting to you and your classmates.
Discipline Policy: If rules are broken the following steps will be taken depending on the severity of the infraction.
1.
2.
3.
4.
Verbal Warning in class
Discussion with student after class and parent contact
Detention (after school)
Parent conference and/or referral to the assistant principal.
 For major offences (drugs, fighting, etc.), students will be removed from the class immediately.
Grades
10% - Benchmarks
10% - Performance Tasks
10% - Homework
55% - Individual Tests, Quizzes, Group Tests
5% - Warm-up/Notes
10% - In-Class Participation/Classwork
Benchmarks are the test that are given to us by the district in order to see what the students have
learned so far this year in preparation for the state test that the students take at the end of the year.
Homework is NOT busy work. It is to be completed in order to reach your goal, which should be to
gain understanding and real world application of Algebra 1 and achieve a passing grade in this course.
Homework allows you to practice what we learned in class and provides you with test material
questions. I will be checking it every day to see that the students made an attempt at the assignment and
then give them the chance to ask questions, see how the problems are solved again, update notes, and
otherwise self correct any mistakes they might have made on the assignment.
Tests and Assessments will be given at regular intervals. This is my main method for assessing what
the students have learned and what still needs to be taught. This will comprise the bulk of their grade.
Classwork, Notes and Participation is the last part of the grade. If the students are not present in class,
paying attention during lectures, or completing the assignments I give, their mastery of the material will
be much more difficult. There will be daily assignments and notes that I will collect and check and will
be worth points.
Absences must be taken very seriously. Being in class every day will assist in the successful
completion of this course. Do NOT wait until the end of the quarter to see what assignments you are
missing. You can also check PAMS for missing assignments and updated grades. It is the responsibility
of each student to check for any missing assignments or assessments. All make up assignments are
due the day following the students return to school.
