THE GALLERY PLAYERS ANNOUNCES

MASTER CLASS by TERRENCE McNALLY

Performances from March 17 th thru March 31st

PARK SLOPE, Brooklyn, NY – The Gallery Players proudly presents MASTER CLASS by Terrence McNally. MASTER CLASS runs from Saturday evening, March 17 th through Sunday, March 31 st . Tom Rowan directs and Connor Davis is the producer.

Filling the starring role of the Diva, Maria Callas, is Carolyn Mignini who has extensive movie and TV credits as well as many Broadway and Off-Broadway appearances including Fiddler On The Roof, Tintypes, The Fantasticks and Sister

Mary Ignatius Explains It All/The Actor’s Nightmare.

MASTER CLASS, winner both the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play and the Tony Award for Best Play in 1996, is a mesmerizing meditation on Maria Callas’ life and the nature of her art. Commanding, competitive, glamorous and drop-dead funny, Callas is alternately dismayed and impressed by the three students exposed to her withering scrutiny. What starts as a master class becomes a platform for her to relive her own recollections about the glories and failures of her life and career.

We learn of her time with Aristotle Onassis; an abortion she was forced to have; her first elderly husband; her early days as an ugly duckling; the hatred of her rivals and the unforgiving press that savaged her. In this rich, vivid, totally theatrical piece we learn that Callas, so fierce and uncompromising in her art, was much less sure and successful in her private life.

The cast includes Carolyn Mignini* as Maria Callas; Jonas Cohen* as Manny;

Stephanie Joiner* as Sophie; Brandon Snook* as Tony; Samantha Guevrekian as

Sharon and Artem Kreimer as the stagehand. Set Designer: Kathryn Leiber.
