JOB TITLE: Admin. Staff / Training Officer
DEPARTMENT: Fire Department
REPORTS TO: Fire Chief
Salary: $52,710.77 - $58,437.57
Level: Firefighter I & II
Preferred - Paramedic Degree
Minimum Academic Requirements: Associate Degree, but prefers a Bachelors
Hours: 40 – Hrs. per week

SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating training activities
and programs within Center Point Fire District. In addition, the individual will be responsible for
managing the occupational health and safety program in accordance with NFPA 1500.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assesses the training needs of the Fire Department and develops, coordinates, and
participates in training programs designed to increase employee skills and to support
the needs and mission of the Department.
Provides orientation and training to new employees.
Maintain necessary records, data, statistics and information relative to the operation of
the training division.
Informs employees of available educational opportunities offered by schools and
colleges in areas related to their professional development.
Coordinates with other agencies on joint training and certification classes.




Serves as a member of the Incident Command System (ICS) as needed at Fire, Rescue,
EMS, and Hazardous Materials Incidents.
Drives emergency vehicles and operates department emergency medical equipment.
At the scene of an emergency, may be called upon to perform any and all duties of a
firefighter, safety officer or any other assignment in the Incident Command Systems.
Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:










Associate Degree, but prefers a Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or
university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent
combination of education and experience
Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportion, percentages, area,
circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations.
Computer skills include: Accounting software, Internet Software, Spreadsheet and Word
Processing Software, Firehouse software.
Must be available to being on call beyond a forty (40) hour week and is expected to
respond to working fires and major emergency incidents when required.
Must be proficient as a fire officer and paramedic and may be utilized in that capacity
when necessary.
Certificates, Licenses and registrations required: Driver’s license, Alabama Department
of Public Health Paramedic State License, National Registry License, Fire Instructor I &
II, Fire Officer I & II, Apparatus Operator Pumper and Aerial. NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
Fire Department Safety Officer, Incident Safety Officer, Hazmat Technician, and Rescue
Technician.
