Pupils receive one 30 minute lesson per day in a group of no more than 3 for one term. Average gain – 10.7 months over a 3 month (1 term) intervention. Boys – 11.5 months; girls – 9.4 months. Average gain over 3 years – 12.6 months – boys – 11.5 months; girls – 13.7 months. ACORNS Reading/Writing Intervention (1 teacher): 30 pupils – 17 girls, 13 girls from Y3. Pupils receive one 30 minute lesson per week in the autumn and spring terms and in the summer term 3 lessons per week in a group of 3. Average gain, reading – 5.5 points; writing – 4.4 points Boys – reading – 5.4 points; writing – 4.9 points. Girls – reading – 5.7 points; writing – 3.8 points. 6 points is the equivalent of 1 year’s progress.
