This is a Government funded course and is aimed at students 19 years and above.

Course Description
Do you own digital camera and want to get the most out of it? This course is an introduction to
digital photography. You will explore how to use your camera settings and when to use them. The
course also covers the fundamentals of photography such as composition, lighting, editing,
enhancement and manipulation. You will be introduced to the work of established photographers
to encourage you to develop your own style of photography.
What is the course about?
The course aims to give you the tools and confidence to use a digital camera. You will be
encouraged to try out different photography techniques that will help you use your camera
creatively and develop your own style.
Course Outline
By the end of the course you will be able to:
 Use your camera confidently
 Recognise different styles and genres in photography
 Demonstrate photography skills for example composition and the use of lighting
 Edit, manipulate and enhance your images on a computer
Are there any special requirements for joining?
You will need basic computing skills and you must bring along your own digital camera. Cameras
are not provided.
How will I learn on the course?
You will learn through a combination of demonstration, presentation and practical exercises both
individually and in groups.
How will my progress be recorded? You will complete a Learner Record of Progress with your
tutor.
Will there be any homework? If so, how much?
You will be asked to bring in images you have taken in your own time to share in class.
Do I need to bring anything?
Learners should bring their own digital camera and USB / memory stick to transfer their work from
the classroom to home.
Where can I go from here?
You may be interested in further non-qualification courses that build on your skills and knowledge
to develop your photography interests. There are also opportunities to undertake qualification
courses for example GCSE and A level photography but this is not offered at this centre.
