• 90-100 A

• Written work except assessments can be turned in at
least 24 hour early for formative comments
•The handbook rules will be followed unless arrangements with the instructor
involving schedule of assignments or attendance is made in advance
•Plagerism is unacceptable and all plagerized work will be assesed as cheating
•APA format for written essay assignments is manditory
•Lessons taught in a practicum setting is expected and must be secured in a timely
manner

Course Description: Designed to help pre-service elementary teachers understand
and apply current research and best practices in teaching reading, writing, listening
and speaking from a holistic, integrated perspective. The course emphasizes the
relationship between literacy, language arts, and other curricular areas, as well as
teaching methods and strategies specifically related to language arts. Content area
reading, selection and use of appropriate materials, resources, and technologies will
be addressed. Prerequisite: Must have been admitted into the Teacher Education
Program and be taking EDEL 315.

There will be periodic reading and writing assignments that will directly relate to
classroom teaching in today’s schools. The strategy assignments due on a weekly
basis are required and must be created in a way that can be digitally shared with the
other students of the course.
Since you will be sharing your strategies with the other students of the class, be sure
to be conscientious to attend every class period. Each class period will begin with
the reading club format and will follow with the informational, interactive lecture
format. The class will be lecture captured for your study purposes and review.
