This course is designed to introduce students to the “Cold War” era of our history. Students will investigate the Truman Era, Korean War, decade of the 1950’s, JFK, the Civil Rights movement, and the administration of Lyndon Johnson, along with other cultural, political and economic concepts associated with this era. Numerous methods of instruction will be incorporated including lecture, group work, inquiry, video, readings, and project research. GRADING The grade scale will be 90% -100%= A, 80% -89%= B, 70% -79%= C, 60% -69%= D, 59%= F. Pluses and minuses will be 2% points from the upper and lower limits of a grade. The two terms will be averaged resulting in a final grade. No comprehensive final exam will be given. Grades will be based on student performance in the following areas; tests, quiz’s, writing assignments, group assignments, study guides, and terms. Student performance will be communicated to each student in a timely manner. Extra credit will be granted after the first term to students in the D to F range if the student so chooses. They must ask the instructor for this opportunity. CHEATING Cheating will not be tolerated. The instructor will follow the guidelines set forth in the student handbook. ATTENDANCE Regular attendance is necessary in order to do well in this class. When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to talk with the teacher concerning the day(s) they were absent. HOMEWORK All homework assignments are posted weekly on the front board. No late work will be accepted unless the student has been absent or has a situation out of their control. The instructor will have final say concerning each situation. RULES 1. Treat others how you would like to be treated. 2. Use things how they are intended to be used.
