— Action by the NASD Membership —
NASD Handbook 2014-15 – Page 118
Standards for Accreditation
XX. Specific Operational Standards for All Institutions of Higher Education for which NASD is the Designated
Institutional Accreditor
Amend XX. as follows:
XX. SPECIFIC OPERATIONAL STANDARDS FOR ALL FREE-STANDING DANCE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER
EDUCATION FOR WHICH NASD IS THE DESIGNATED INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITOR
NOTE: The following standards apply to all independent free-standing dance institutions of higher education that
offer professional education and training in dance with the exception of those that 1) have designated as their
institutional accrediting body, for the purpose of eligibility in Title IV programs, a regional or other national
institutional accreditation agency, and 2) have been approved by that agency. They may be degree- and/or nondegree-granting; they may be not-for-profit or proprietary. These standards are in addition to Standards I.
through XIX. Additional standards apply to proprietary schools (see Standards XXI). All independent Free-standing
dance institutions to which Standards XX. apply must demonstrate compliance with all applicable standards in
this section.
NOTE: Rationale for Changes
The proposed changes to the Rules of Practice and Procedure, Part II, and Standards for Accreditation of the
Handbook listed above a) reflect the need to remain consistent with current interpretations of federal regulations,
which are applicable to Title IV gatekeeper agencies such as NASD when it acts as an institutional accreditor, and b)
at this time, are being required by the United States Department of Education.
Please note: Upon confirmation of an affirmative vote, editorial changes will be made as appropriate to existing
Handbook language to ensure consistency throughout the document.
