Social
Exploring the ways in which
languages and meaning are
constructed and considering
the impact of different
modes of expression, by the
study of more than one
foreign language and
different modes of address,
for example.
Providing opportunities to
work independently in
lessons and proactively use
the target language in
classwork, whether through
pair work, co-operative
learning techniques or group
work.
Experimenting and taking
risks with the foreign
language allows pupils to
develop their understanding
from their mistakes and
develop their resilience.
Investigating cultural
festivals around the world
seeing the differences and
similarities in how these are
celebrated in different
countries
Moral
Engaging pupils in
discussions to convey either
in speaking or writing their
own position regarding
moral issues that arise
around such topics as
relationship of teenagers
with parents, responsibility
towards the environment,
smoking and health issues,
pollution, etc.
Presenting pupils with an
opportunity to view attitudes
and values that shape the
template of their own moral
development through a
broader spectrum and to
question their own moral
reality.
Spiritual
Encouraging pupils to
discover more about and be
empathetic to the cultures
and beliefs of others and
challenge stereotypes where
necessary.
Encouraging pupils to
experience the beauty of
languages from around the
world and their regional
variations, for example by
comparing European and
Latin American Spanish.
Cultural
Appreciating the language
and customs of others by
exploring the literature,
music, societies andculture
of other countries, for
example, through
MFL trips (particularly
homestay exchanges) which
encourage pupils to
experience the life of
different cultures.
Helping pupils to reach an
accurate and truthful
understanding of another
culture and get to know
native speakers from those
linguistic communities
through cultural events, trips
and working with native
speaker and near-native
speaker members of staff
and visitors.
