E-N-G MOBILE SYSTEMS, Inc. Mobile Hybrid Power System NoGEN™ WHAT IS IT? It is a custom, fully integrated power module that provides 120 VAC and 12 VDC output for certain mobile applications. It consists of patented PowerCellTM storage technology, pure-sine wave inverters, battery charger and ruggedized AC and DC interfaces. The PowerCellTM is a proprietary dry cell, technically defined as by-polar plate technology. The Mobile Hybrid Power System is considered a “hybrid” system because it is replenished by the vehicle alternator during drive and idle times. KEY BENEFITS vs. GENERATOR: Safe: No carbon Monoxide Quiet No maintenance No fuel consumption (significant operating cost reduction) No emissions Recyclable and environmentally responsible (there is no hazmat component) Totally transparent to the operator. Minimal intervention or training required. PowerCell™ BACKGROUND: It cannot be described in conventional battery terms and does not look like a conventional battery. It is a solid brick of plastic and utilizes a higher order of chemistry than traditional batteries. A PowerCellTM is rugged, safe, durable, and has been exhaustively tested. Each stores 1000 amp-hours of power. A single cell can start a diesel engine in excess of 100 times without recharge. They are fully recyclable at the end of the life cycle. All other battery technology has a hazmat component but the PowerCellTM does not. This product is truly in a class by itself. The storage technology was developed as a joint venture between Ford and Tracor in the 1990s. It is utilized in military weapon systems including the Abrams tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and on shipboard weapon systems. The purpose was to allow the weapons system to stay active even if the vehicle is not running. The advantage of this technology is that it is non-explosive and does not contribute to the detonation if targeted. The technology was purchased by a private company comprised of the principals involved with the development. They have been producing the storage device for several years. The product is U.S. Made. There are three manufacturing plants in the U.S., one in Texas, Oklahoma and Vermont. More recently, the company has expanded into integrated solutions and value-added products; from megawatt UPS systems in the South Pole, to load leveling of large wind generation farms and also some commercial construction industry products. The company is involved in various university research projects. E-N-G Mobile Systems has been involved with the company for many months and has jointly developed vehicle-based products including a large scale mobile office project for utility companies. This experience has led to the development of products for broadcast vehicles. 1. 2. 3. PowerCell is a trademark of Xtreme Power Solutions NoGEN is a trademark of E-N-G Mobile Systems, Inc. DURATION: The R-6 Power Module (6000 Watt-hour rating) will power a typical technical vehicle operating electronics and air conditioning for 2 to 3 hours with air conditioning, and up to 5 additional hours with electronics only. If more operating time is required, the operator can start the truck so that the alternator is supplementing the storage, which will extend the output duration. A typical high-output alternator will provide sufficient power to operate many electronics packages indefinitely. The Power Management system is two stage: One stage operates the air conditioning and the other stage operates the technical equipment. The air conditioning stage has a higher shut-down voltage than does the technical stage, so as reserve voltage gets lower, the air conditioner will shut down to preserve capacity for the electronics. Audible and visible alarms advise of voltage condition. RECHARGE. Any driving or idle is contributing to the recharge. A module discharged to the alarm set point can be fully recharged in approximately 2 hours of driving or high idle. (no load.) It can also be recharged from shore power in approximately 4 hours via the on-board built-in charger. LIFE TIME EXPECTANCY: Average life 7 to 10 years if in consistent use. This is comparable to the life cycle of most vehicles. TEMPERATURE CONSIDERATIONS: Operation improves with higher temperature to about 120 degrees. In extreme cold, a “polar bear kit” is available that will improve operation in extreme low temperature. The unit is less affected by temperature than traditional batteries or generators.
