GRE -Study for GRE the summer BEFORE you apply. -Call your current school’s career/and/or/testing center. They should be able to inform you when and where GRE tests are held in your area. Be sure to verify the testing dates available. Some schools only offer the testing twice a year. -You typically take the GRE in October or November. It takes around a month to get the results back. Give yourself plenty of time for processing the results. -Schedule the test so that it is completed no later than mid January on the year you plan to apply. -Send in an official record of the results from the Graduate Record Examination General Aptitude test (Verbal, Quantitative, Analytical scores) to UWEC. 2. (3) Letters of Recommendation -Three letters of recommendation from faculty familiar with the student's undergraduate or graduate work (one letter from an employer may be substituted for a faculty recommendation). Each letter should describe the student's Experiences that demonstrate a readiness for graduate level academic work Communication skills (oral and written) Maturity, independence and ability to work with others Ability to work with children and youth Interest and motivation for pursuing a career in school psychology -Give them a month or two to write it. If it is close to the application deadline, remind them that it will need to be mailed it by the middle of February. This should give the admissions department plenty of time to process them. -A cover letter is attached at the end of this document. You and the person recommending you can decide who will be mailing it. 3. UWEC Graduate Studies Application -Applications forms are available from: -Chris Schick in Admissions @715-836-5415 -You also may request one by sending a request to admissions@uwec.edu. -It is most common to apply on-line at http://apply.wisconsin.edu. Note: When completing the essay online, please use the personal statement guidelines as outlined below in step #8. 4. Application Fee - Send in a $56 application fee with each application for admission. 5. Transcripts - Arrange to have one official copy of transcripts from the schools where you have obtained your bachelors degree. The only transcripts that you need to send are those from schools where you obtained your highest degree. The only exceptions are: a) If you are currently enrolled, or have taken, graduate school courses send those transcripts as well. b) If you obtained more than one bachelors degree, or have obtained a separate master’s degree at another facility, send those as well. 7.Apply for Assistantship and Financial Aid -Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as applications for graduate assistantships, fellowships and Advanced Opportunity Program Fellowships by March 1. -All graduate students accepted are considered for a limited number of assistantships. -Send assistantship/fellowship applications to Nancy Amdahl at: UWEC Graduate Studies Schofield Hall Rm#210 Eau Claire, 54702 8. Personal Statement - A typewritten personal statement prepared by the student describing: His/her experience in working with children or youth Self-evaluation of strengths and weaknesses relative to being a school psychologist Professional objectives and plans upon completion of the program Note: If applying online, when writing the online essay, please use these guidelines. Only one essay is necessary for completion of the admission requirements. 9. Interview Day -Be prepared to come to the campus for an in-person interview. Interviews are completed on either the first or second weekend of March.
