RESEARCH & PRACTICA
Research
Pattern Avoidance in Task-Precedence Posets. With Dr. Manda Riehl (MATH), UWEC, Spring 2015 present. We expand the study of pattern avoidance into a new structure: multiple task-precedence posets with three levels.
We have discovered several interesting bijections between: posets avoiding 132 and certain generalized Dyck paths, posets
avoiding 132 and 213, and posets avoiding 231 and 312. We have also found the generating function for descents in these
permutations for the majority of collections of patterns of length three.
Real Analysis Final Project. With Dr. Chris Davis (MATH), UWEC, Spring 2015. We used LaTex software to
generate proofs that the uniform limit of a uniformly continuous sequence of functions is uniformly continuous and the
pointwise limit of an equicontinuous sequence of functions is continuous.
Representation of Women in Physics. For Social Foundations: Human Relations with Dr. Eric Torres (ED
STUDS) and student collaborator Andrew Gulotta, Spring 2014. Conducted face-to-face interviews with faculty
member from Physics Department and two Physics majors. Used 8 item survey instrument to understand whether
individuals experienced sense of minority status, if they had encountered discrimination, why they thought so few women
chose physics as a career, what they found as benefits for women in physics.
Applications of Abstract Algebra to Secondary Mathematics. For Abstract Algebra I with Dr. Michael
Penkava (MATH) and student collaborator Jami Riley, UWEC, Fall 2013. Examination of mappings of injective and
surjective functions in addition to group theory and their applicability to high school algebra and geometry.
1
Educational Psychology Panel Presentation. For Educational Psychology with Dr. Catya von Károlyi
(PSYCH) with student colleagues Elliot Wellnitz, Erika Kessler and Lillian Forsman, UWEC, Spring 2013.
Collaborated with classmates and planned a presentation to demonstrate our comprehension of knowledge and the
application of concepts at the end of the semester. Performed before the class in the form of a skit.
Identity as Unifying Theme of Multiple Subject Curricular Unit. For General Methods of Teaching
with Drs. Deborah Pattee and Mickey Kolis (EDUC) and student colleagues L. Little, C. Venske and C. Bristol.
Created a 5-Es Lesson Plan model of an interdisciplinary unit for Arcadia (WI) middle schoolers that included choir, math,
band, and general music. Incorporated WI Model Academic Teaching Standards; formative & summative assessments on
ethnic diversity, 9 multiple intelligences, giftedness and low-achievement. Presented model to class in Prezi & print formats.
Practica
Institutional Research Student Employee. Supervised by Andrew Nelson, UWEC, Present. Analyzed
university student enrollment & academic performance data to formulate trends and display information to the community.
Calculus II Instructor Assistant. Assisted Dr. Simei Tong (MATH), UWEC, Spring 2015. Assisted and
graded weekly quizzes and the three midterm examinations for Dr. Tong in two sections of Calculus II.
Abstract Algebra Instructor Assistant. Assisted Dr. aBa Mbirika (MATH). UWEC, Fall 2014. Assisted and
graded in Abstract Algebra. Graded homework assignments, quizzes, and exams.
Midwest Undergraduate Data Analytics Competition. Supervised by Dr. Abra Brisbin. Winona State
University, Spring 2015. Worked with a UWEC four-member student team to apply data analysis skills to a problem for a
local business. In 24 hr. period conducted analysis, provided summary of findings, and prepared oral presentation of results.
Wisconsin Mathematical Modeling Challenge. Supervised by Abra Brisbin. University of Wisconsin, La
Crosse, Fall 2014. Competed alongside 3 UWEC students to gather data and develop a model to rank U.S. cities based
upon three age categories and presented results. Competition included 7 upper Midwest colleges.
Introduction to the Teaching Experience. Supervised by Mary Rettke. North Star Middle School, Eau
Claire, WI. Fall 2012. Observed and aided in 8th grade math. Taught lesson on volumes of cylinders & rectangular prisms.
Introduction to the Teaching Experience. Supervised by Heidi James. North High School, Eau Claire, WI.
Fall 2012. Observed and aided in a special education classroom. Also taught one economics lesson on price systems.
INSTRUCTION

test corrections. Observed by UWEC faculty, I taught a lesson on operations on rational expressions.
UWEC Academic Success Center, Eau Claire, WI. Supervised by Ms. Faith Pawelski. Led weekly
Tutor
tutoring sessions for students in math and physics, and tutored elementary statistics, astronomy, physical
science, and university physics I and II.
UWEC Department of Mathematics, Eau Claire, WI. Helped students in the Math lab with
Intermediate Algebra, Calculus I, and Calculus II. Also co-led review session for Calculus II final exam
with collaborating student Hengzhou Liu.
