We will be looking for these skills to translate into writing Writing: One full paragraph (6 or more sentences) with transition words – we will be using the SMILE Writing program We will also work on handwriting. 3/22/2016 Math: +/- to 20, skip-counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, place value to 100, in addition to many concepts at an introductory level to be built upon in later grades . We have a new math program that focuses on the mastery of the Big Ideas in the Sunshine State Standards. However, we will hold ourselves accountable for the Imagine Standards as well which will better prepared our students for success on SAT-10. We will use Dino Mite math drills to develop fluency with basic math facts, Sunshine Math (Math Superstars) for math enrichment, calendar math, and hands-on math center activities. Science/Social Studies: In Science we will cover basic concepts and do some hands on experiments. In Social Studies we will learn about different holidays and American symbols. Do NOT return prior to Friday. I will try to send home Friday tests on Monday so you can review them. All other classwork and graded papers will be sent home in Thursday folder. Some classwork will not be graded (often math packets) because I look over them as we go. Homework- Each week there will be 2 reading practice sheets, 1 math sheet, and the practice spelling test as well as the 20 minutes of reading each night. This will change in January Spelling Tests are given each Friday. Practice test is done at home as Thursdays homework. Center Work is graded for completion and neatness. Homework is checked for completion. If not completed or if student has not finished it to satisfaction, a note will be included for them to finish or correct and return the following week in Folder. Flash cards and card games, little books sent home with homework are to be kept at home for practice. Do not send them back in the Homework Folders Dino-Mite Math Drills will be each week on Tues. & Thurs. Dino Mite math is a timed math drill. Each student will progress at their own rate and will be rewarded for progress throughout the program. You can practice at home to better prepare your child with the flashcards we will send home in the homework folder. Also, www.math-drills.com is a great site to use at home. Agendas should be signed by parent each day. Reading Logs and Homework Checklists to be kept in the plastic sleeves in the Homework Folders.
