Welcome to Mrs. Cowles’ Class Contact Information: Room 809 321 – 433 – 0050 ex. 5809 cowles.emily@brevardschools.org http://manatee.sp.brevardschools.org/ TeacherHome/Cowles2/default.aspx Dear Parents, Below I have listed and explained some policies and procedures in my classroom. Being aware of these policies and procedures will help you and your child have a great school year. Behavior Plan In order to maintain a safe learning environment, all students will participate in the classroom behavior plan. Each child will be assigned a number. That number will be written on a pocket chart. Your child’s assigned pocket will contain three cards, a green one, a yellow one, and a red one. In the morning, every child will start on green. If he or she needs continual redirection, the card will be changed to yellow. If he or she still needs redirection, the card will be moved to red. However, some behaviors are intolerable, such as any physical or verbal action that threatens the safety or wellbeing of another student. This type of behavior will result in a red card and quite possibly a referral to the principal. At the end of the day your child’s behavior will be recorded on a calendar that will be kept in his or her folder. If necessary there will be an email further explaining your child’s behavior. Please review your child’s behavior daily. There is a small box in the corner of each day for you to initial after reviewing your child’s behavior for the day. In order to reward good behavior, your child will be able to visit the treasure box once he or she earns 5 green days. Folder Procedures Your child’s folder is an important communication tool, so please send it to school daily. I will diligently check folders for notes from home. As well, the folders will be used to send home school work, forms, and tests. Your child will also keep a calendar in his or her folder that will log daily behavior. Please do not remove this calendar! Snack/Water Please pack a snack for your child daily. Healthy snacks are encouraged. No juice will be permitted during snack. Students may have only water in the classroom, except for on special occasions. Your child may also bring a water bottle to school to keep in his/her cubby. Birthdays On your child’s birthday he/she may bring in a special snack to share with the class. The snack will be shared after lunch. Please provide the same type of snack for every child in the class. Some great ideas are mini cupcakes (easier for students to eat), cookies, and rice crispy treats. Your child may also bring juice boxes. It is also appreciated when napkins and plates are supplied. If your child would like to hand out invitations at school he/she must provide invitations for every child. Otherwise the invitations will be sent home. As well, it will be the child’s or parent’s responsibility to put invitations in mailboxes. Dress Code Students are required to wear running shoes with laces for both P.E. and Supplemental P.E. Four out of five days of the week your child will participate in P.E. or Supplemental P.E. If your child is not in the appropriate attire he/she will be asked to not participate. Straps on tops need to be at least two fingers in width. Also, shorts must be worn under skirts. This is particularly important since the students spend a large part of the day sitting on the carpet. Dismissal Changes I must have a written note for all dismissal changes. If your child has a dismissal change, please send a note in his/her folder. If you email me after 9:00 on the day of the dismissal change please also contact the front office. It is difficult for me to check my email after my planning period. Also, at times my computer and/or email may be down which would result in me missing your email. It is best to send a written note in your child’s folder on or before the day of the dismissal change. Thank you for your understanding. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. - Mrs. Cowles
