Oshkosh Student Association (OSA) Position: Legislative Affairs Ambassador No of Openings: 1 General Functional and Scope: The Legislative Affairs Ambassador will serve at the pleasure of the OSA President and Vice President by serving as the liaison between OSA and the student population on campus. The Legislative Affairs Ambassador will identify and bring issues of concern to the student population and serve and identify issues that OSA can provide support and take action on those issues. The Legislative Affairs Ambassador will also enhance broad and active participation by all students in various educational and public policy issues. This includes matters that arise at all levels of governmental operation at the local, state and federal levels. General Staff Duties Report directly to the OSA President and Vice President. Provide reports upon request to the OSA Senate, Assembly and Chief of Staff. Attend Director meetings amongst other Directors and Ambassadors. Develop resources, materials and presentations that provide accurate and timely information on such issues as: (1) voter registration and participation; (2) student involvement in campus- and community-based forums and presentations; and (3) improved and enhanced visibility and participation by students in the process of public affairs, leadership and governance. Visit with elected officials and regularly attend open public events of scheduled office hours held by elected public officials at all levels (local, state, and federal). Qualifications Must have substantive knowledge of political issues and structure at the federal, state and local levels. Must be willing to perform actions in a non-partisan manner that focuses on advancing student interests, not any given political party, governmental decision-maker, elected official, or candidate for election to public office. Must be an enrolled student at UW Oshkosh. Ability to work independently and organize projects. Effective verbal and communication skills. Wage/salary: No salary will be offered for this position.
