Leopards survive upset bid
The Temple Daily Telegram reports that the Temple College men’s basketball
team was challenged by Ranger Junior College on Saturday night at RC Gym but
prevailed for a 96-89 victory, its eighth consecutive win.
Wing Jermaine Green led the Leopards with 25 points and 10 rebounds, and guard
Bennie Tate added four 3-pointers and 20 points for TC, which improved to 11-2 overall
and 2-0 in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Ranger (0-2 NTJCAC), which got 32 points from wing Charles Smith, jumped out
to an 11-7 lead, but TC rebounded and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the
second half.
“This was the kind of game you’re worried about from a coaching standpoint,”
said Coach Kirby Johnson, whose Leopards beat rival, McLennan 97-86 Wednesday in
their conference opener. "Ranger played really well. This will remind us that every
conference game is big." TC, which made 28 of 32 free throws, will return to NTJCAC
play on Jan. 10 at Southwestern Christian College in Terrell.
