MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: LIBRARY CLERK, PUBLIC SERVICES (SEC) BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Library Technician III, Public Services and the supervision of the Coordinator, Library Operations the incumbent will perform a variety of clerical and data-entry tasks related to providing the acquisition and circulation of library materials; providing access to a variety of library resources; and maintaining an academic reserve collection. The Library Clerk is often the sole classified staff member at the circulation desk in the evenings and on Saturdays and works closely with the faculty reference librarian on duty. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Circulate both catalogued library and academic reserve material according to established library policies and procedures; provide password override necessary to perform specific circulation functions. (E) 2. Explain community member and reciprocal borrowing policies and procedures to general public library users; create community and reciprocal user records in the library database. (E) 3. Explain established academic reserve policies and procedures to faculty members; create and maintain closed and open academic reserve items per faculty member request. (E) 4. Enter periodicals information into library database; update and edit campus library periodical holdings; refer missing or duplicate issues to the library technician. (E) 5. Provide directional and general information to students, staff, faculty, and the general public; answer the circulation desk telephone line and direct incoming calls to appropriate personnel or department. (E) 6. Assist library users with using audio-visual equipment in library public areas. 7. Respond to incidents with RFID security system and contact supervisor regarding any resulting issues. (E) 8. Assist the reference librarian on duty to close and secure the Library and Information Hub on weekday evenings and on Saturdays. 9. Other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Not applicable. WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Workers and Campus Aides. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Subject to intermittent to frequent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 35 pounds or less; ability to work at computer, including repetitive use of computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices; ability to travel to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business. EMOTIONAL EFFORT: Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for extended periods of time and/or intermittently while attending to other responsibilities; ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities. WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily works in an indoor Library and Information Hub environment. Subject to frequent interruptions by individuals in person or by telephone; intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion.
