Space Committee Meeting MINUTES March 7, 2012 Members Present: Shari Shuman, Pierre Allaire, Newton Jackson, Mauricio Gonzalez, Tom Serwatka, Lisa Jamba, Scott Hochwald Support Staff Present: Zak Ovadia, Deb Kaye, Everett Malcolm, Mary Mory, Elizabeth Jones, John Hale, Mike McGuire 1. Project Timelines - Programming for Buildings 50, 3 and 4 Physical Facilities is engaging a consultant to determine if there are any issues in changing the function of the labs from Biology to Chemistry. - Sanctuary and Religious Centers Engaged a consultant to survey the site, prepare a mini master plan and determine infrastructure costs needed for the site. 2. Student Wellness Complex - The building is now enclosed. Drywall is almost finished on the main floor. The second floor will be drywalled next week. - The project is on schedule for substantial completion at the end of May. 3. Biological Sciences Building - The building is complete and almost all occupants have moved in. - The dedication ceremony is scheduled for March 30 at 10:30 am in Darwin’s Garden. 4. Science & Engineering Remedial Work - The last part of the roofing is underway and should be completed in the next two weeks. - Landscaping will follow. 5. Dining Facility - There are no technical issues at this time. - Interior finishes are currently being addressed. - Completion of the first two floors is scheduled for August 2012. 6. NE Connector Road/Lot 34 - The lot has been compacted for the asphalt to be laid. - The road is one month behind due to unsuitable materials. - Adjustments have been made for trucks to be able to turn in and out. 7. Confucius Institute - Student Affairs provided documentation of the need for space for the Confucius Institute, which would include one conference room, lobby space, a library, a computer lab and offices for a director, grad assistants and visiting faculty. 8. Housing Maintenance Building - This project is scheduled for completion in August. There are currently no issues. 9. High Ropes Course - The poles are up and the storage buildings are on order. - The project should be completed by the end of April. 10. Hammer and Throws Area - Sodding is in progress. - The project will be ready in April. 11. Housing Clubhouse - The university is advertising for consulting services for a housing clubhouse which will include a convenience store, a multi-purpose room, restrooms, laundry, post office and a recreational pool. Traffic flow and the depth of the pool will be reviewed. 12. Additional Items - Mauricio noted that Housing is looking into parking options in front of the Fountains Housing. Completed Projects 1.
