WHAT IS FINANCIAL LITERACY?
Someone who is financially literate
possesses the skills and knowledge of
financial matters to make informed
decisions and take effective action to
fulfill their goals. Financial literacy is a
way for people to practice these money
skills in a safe environment. This is the
same way we learn most of our skills –
by practice. You would practice
pronunciations to become verbally
literate and you would practice creating
a budget to become more financially
literate. Join us for an upcoming
Financial Literacy event and practice
your skills!
DID YOUR FINANCIAL AID EXPIRE?
There could be many reasons why you
did not receive the amount of financial
aid you had expected. These reasons
could vary from being chosen for
verification to being deemed ineligible
due to the amount of hours you
registered for. FIRST – you should
contact the One Stop office to determine
what you need to do, if the aid is still
available, and if you need to turn in
additional documents or provide more
information. SECOND – you should
contact our office to see what types of
payment arrangements are available to
you. The sooner you complete these
two steps the better off you will be for
the Spring semester!
OZZIE’$ TIP OF THE MONTH
PLANNING TO BE RICH $$$$$$$
Did you receive your refund late? Did
you sign up for Direct Deposit? Did you
complete
the
Financial
Aid
Authorization? Check out this article
from UNF Spinnaker which explains the
refund process.
There are a few basic steps you should
begin to take while you are still in
college if one of your goals is to become
a millionaire. While we all hope to get
high paying jobs right after graduation,
that isn’t always an option. These steps
can help you in planning to be rich
regardless
of
your
income.

 Consider credit cards a last resort.
The interest you collect on the
original charges adds up quickly
 Live within your means. This
equates to paying your basic
expenses
(food,
housing,
transportation) without splurging
on big ticket items.
FINANCIAL AID AUTHORIZATION
Federal financial aid cannot pay
miscellaneous
charges
(such
as
orientation and late fees) unless you
authorize it to do so. If you have charges
and do not authorize the aid, you must to
pay the fees yourself. Your account will
be placed on hold until they are paid.
Your refund will also be delayed. Follow
these steps to complete the authorization:
1. Log into myWings, student tab
2. Select “Student Self Service”
 Reduce daily spending. Instead of
buying a coffee and bagel every
day at Starbucks, brew your own
coffee and make your own
breakfast at home. This small
savings of about $3/day can add
up to over $1,000 a year in your
savings account.
 Use the handy calculator to find
out how much you need to save
yearly in order to become a
millionaire.
